Secara fisik, seri ini nyaris sama dengan kakaknya, bodynya terbuat dari plastik hitam memakai rangka baja stainless. Perbedaan signifikan selain mode video adalah sensor CMOS 15 MP yang terpasang pada Canon EOS 500D ini.
