Setelah lama mengandalkan Nikon D40 dan Nikon D60, Akhirnya Nikon merilis kamera baru untuk kelas entry level DSLR atau DSLR untuk pemula. Sekilas, body Nikon D3000 ini mirip kakaknya, Nikon D5000 yang semula dirumorkan sebagai pengganti D40/D60 sebagai DSLR untuk pemula dari nikon. Masih tetap mengandalkan resolusi 10,2 MP namun menggunakan sensor CCD, tidak seperti kakaknya yg menggunakan sensor CMOS, Walaupun kit lensa bawaan tetap sama, yaitu AF-S 18-55mm VR, baik untuk Nikon D5000 maupun Nikon D3000.

Nikon D3000 seharga 6 jutaan ini ibarat D60 yang barbaju baru, banyak fitur yang nyaris sama. Memang ada perbaikan atau peningkatan di beberapa sisi semisal : 11 titik autofokus, sebelumnya hanya 3 di D40/D60. Kemudian ada fitur menarik, yaitu 3D AF tracking, sebelumnya tidak ada di D40/D60. Hal lain yg terlihat berbeda pada Nikon D3000 ini adalah LCD 3″, sebelumnya 2,5″.

Harga Nikon D3000 diperkirakan sama dengan d60, yaitu sekitar 6 jutaan. DSLR untuk pemula ini merupakan downgrade bila fiturnya dibandingkan dengan kakaknya, nikon D5000. Ada beberapa hal yg dihilangkan untuk menjadikan D3000 ini berharga lebih murah. Antara lain : sensor CMOS 12 MP (persis sama seperti D90), rentang ISO 200-3200, kinerja burst 4 fps (pada D3000 hanya 3 fps, HD movie – LCD lipat – live view, lima pilihan mode Active D lighting (pada D3000 hanya ADL on/off saja), koreksi CA secara otomatis serta in-camera retouch yang lengkap. Namun ada juga fitur baru yang cocok ditanamkan pada DSLR untuk pemula, yaitu built in tutorial. Kita bisa mempelajari fitur2nya tanpa menggunakan buku manual, tapi langsung pada layar LCD Nikon D3000 ini.
